Self-publishing can be very disappointing. It's lucky you have a reasonable agent. Three of my writing group got agents, but all of us were told we couldn't self-pub anything, that it would "hurt" our chances of going trad. Two of us fired our agents; one is still hanging in. At the end of this year, one CP will have pubbed 4 novels, I'll have pubbed 3 (I hope), and the one with an agent will have 5 written and none pubbed. I have no money to advertise, so I'm real glad you aren't a fan of that. Thanks very much for the tips and have a great week!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07735576044552810103noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1897238162318789476.post-50777130776483788782016-08-11T22:03:00.098-04:002016-08-11T22:03:00.098-04:00I'm still leery of self publishing but I'm...I'm still leery of self publishing but I'm going to hang on to this post in case I decide to take the plunge.LD Mastersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01202135756299574972noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1897238162318789476.post-8112183091026179362016-08-11T20:03:21.399-04:002016-08-11T20:03:21.399-04:00Thank you for the advice. (I don't have anything against starting out with self-pub, I just don't like the idea of flooding the market with unproven stories. As you mentioned, you received lots of positive feedback, so I would consider that "proven" enough to go ahead with the self-pub as a hybrid author who just hasn't hit the trad markets just yet.)Patrick Stahlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09690555802232025818noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1897238162318789476.post-27416182028198899172016-08-09T14:56:08.198-04:002016-08-09T14:56:08.198-04:00Thank you for sharing! Sharing what works for you is wonderful since I see a few similarities in things that have / haven't worked for me. Blog tours etc, I agree, really don't do much, unless you're already a strong and established author. Can't wait to see your other books release:)T.F. Exciting you can do cover design! That is SO not my strong suit. I definitely was not able to release mine as close together as RaShelle suggested, but it's still worked out fine. I'd say if you have them ready, aim for 4-6 weeks in between as opposed to 80, but just do what you can.alexiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07122487552931794871noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1897238162318789476.post-13138944353824065902016-08-08T13:17:10.139-04:002016-08-08T13:17:10.139-04:00Thanks! But this summer, I've decided to take the leap--and am SO nervous and SO excited and am loving the work aspect of it. The business. I've been working to design my own covers for the trilogy--I hope to release a book every 80-ish days, but now I'm worrying that's too far apart? Having so many blogging friends who've gone before me and share their knowledge and expertise is incredibly helpful and I'm incredibly grateful. THANKS!!! And Happy Pubiversary! Cheers!) <3 Christyerica and christyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13074820593371226159noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1897238162318789476.post-55620985905259229062016-08-08T07:38:58.334-04:002016-08-08T07:38:58.334-04:00Congrats!
