Monday Meme: When I'm a Famous Author

Happy Labor Day, writer friends! Today is the second posting of my new weekly meme, in which I share one of my daydreams for when I'm a famous author. I LOVED all the daydreams you guys shared with me last week. So, let's go for round two - and if you have pics to post on your blog, put the link in your comment so we can all pop over!

So, in tribute to Labor Day, that will be the theme for today. When I'm a famous author, I won't have to have a 'day' job. I'll be able to write all day. Although, I like to break it up into sections, so my day will probably go something like this:

First, I'll wake up, take the kiddos to school, and stop by Starbucks. Then I'll have a fantastic caffeine fueled writing session. I'll probably do my blogging in the morning, too. Around midday, I'll have lunch, maybe with some friends in a yummy cafe. Since I won't have to go back to my office job, I can even have a little glass of wine if I want. I may take a nap after that. Then I'll pick the kids up, and head back home for another writing session. And, since I'm kind of a night owl, I may write another session later after the kids are asleep.

So, what about you guys? What are your famous writery daydreams of the week? Any fun Labor Day plans?

  1. OMIGOSH I love this! I actually have something this week that I did for what I looked forward to most as an author. I'm hoping the experience is around the corner! I'm in queryland right now and those starbucks runs and cute kitty naps sound so much fun!

  2. Sounds like the perfect day for me. Mine won't be quite so... quiet. I have a two-year-old and a three-year-old. They days when all my kiddos are in school is years a way. *sigh*

  3. When I'm a famous writer, I will sit around my huge house, draped in elegance, and write romance novels until I need to do something else. Right now I just sit around my apartment in jeans and try to write romance novels.

  4. Arh that cat is soo cute.

I've just had some of my "day" job (Comms officer) work-copy heavily 'edited' so feeling too bruised to even daydream. Seems impossible right now. *sigh* I'm even contemplating getting a fulltime not-even-related-to-writing-job instead.

Oh - sorry - I think I just rained on this parade. I'll be off now. Man - I sound like Eeyore.

  8. Alexia, I love your Monday memes, because it reminds us of our goals and inspires us to keep on writing.

Since Marcelo had to work this weekend, I've been using this time to judiciously cut (wah!) sections from the initial chapters of The Underground Gift.

Who says rejections don't rock? It was the advice in two declinations, one from an editor and one from an agent, that inspired me to do some tough love with my red pen. The feedback, although it was worded more professionally: Does my antagonist get his evil on soon enough?

Although readers see glimpses of Benjamin Michaelson throughout the first 27 pages of Gift, he doesn't get a speaking role until that 28th page.

I hope your holiday weekend was a great one and that you get some outstanding feedback for your Countless queries.

  9. That would be a pretty awesome day. Mine would go pretty much the same, though I'd substitute the kids for an evening on the Xbox or something, hehe.

  10. When I'm a published author, I'll probably work more - because then I'll know people want to read my writing and it'll spur me on.

  11. Sounds like the perfect writing day and dream to me! My perfect day, which I'm sort of doing at the moment, is to check my emails first thing, write during the morning, visit the gym, have coffee or lunch with friends, and then write again in the afternoon. Of course I'm housebound with my broken toe but it won't be long before I'm out and about!

    Love your Monday posts!

  15. The one thing I dream of as a writer is a better view outside my window. I'd love to write in a house (cabin, shack, whatever) that faces water. And a nice sunset. Ah, how perfect...
