Happy Book Birthday for A War of Daisies!

Happy book birthday to A War of Daisies, which launches my Four Horsewomen of the Apocalypse series!! It's my 13th published book, but a first in many ways. My first fantasy western, my first book set in the 1800s, my first book with four main characters (that was a fun challenge), the first book I've released in hard copy, and the first for which I've made a live-action book trailer. It's Westworld meets Good Omens with a feminist twist. Cowgirls and angels and demons. Horses and six-shooters and cross-country races. A super fun time.

One of my early reviewers said, "If you don't enjoy complex stories of women in patriarchal societies navigating different cross sections of identity, sex, and race...well, I'm afraid I can't help you there, and neither can Chamberlynn. A War of Daisies reads like a western and is structured like a high fantasy epic. The author unapologetically shows the darker, racist, misogynistic side of the old west, giving us a leading cast of women that provides expertly woven, multipolar character arcs."

Anyway, have a glass of champagne with me! Super stoked.

P.S. If you missed said live-action book trailer, go here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BEtv2wC0zg

International Release: Book Trailer for The Four Horsewomen of the Apocalypse!

So, I did a thing. A few months back I had a random thought and I ran with it. And the random thought was, why don’t you make a live-action book trailer for Four Horsewomen of the Apocalypse and play Death riding her pale horse? I mean, it seemed natural. Max is the perfect pale horse. Why not dress up as one of my characters and create a short film? Not wild/crazy/daunting/audacious at all.

It's been an interesting journey creating this thing. Writing a book is one thing, but starring in a short film? Completely different. I don't really think I thought it through when I first had the idea early this year, and I'm glad I didn't, because I totally would have chickened out. It's really putting myself out there, you know? Like ME, on a screen. It's a very different sort of creative expression than writing. But it was a total blast, and I loved it, and Max actually loved it, and I think we have many more costumed performances in our future. I really LOVE LOVE LOVE how it came out. Hopefully you enjoy it just a fraction as much as I do.

A HUGE shout out to: my friend and amazing filmmaker Ash Mancuso who directed the film, saw my vision, added so much depth and awesomeness to it, made me feel like a rock star while putting up with my camera shyness, and was just an awesome co-creator of this project. My trainer Marsha Hartford Sapp, without whom I would not have a horse who I can throw in western tack (usually we use a dressage saddle), ride with a big, billowy cloak, and shoot clouds of fog at from a machine (oh, and letting me use said western tack and fog machine!). Photographer Kim Chason for capturing our second video shoot with pics I will cherish forever. Sandy Beaulieu for lending me several gorgeous key pieces to my outfit as Death and offering great advice. And so many horse friends who lent me things and cheered me on through this process. It's been a group effort of powerful women coming together, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I would love it if you share this film far and wide! As much as I adore the book trailer, I also adore this series of books and want my characters and my story to find readers who also love it. Dynah/Death is the star of this film, but you’ll also meet Willow, Felicity, and Penelope. They kick ass.

But above all, enjoy the trailer - whether or not you’re into fantasy books about cowgirls and angels and demons!

Death and Dating Releases Today!

Death and Dating, The Quinn Chronicles Book 1, releases today! It's a Zyan Star spin-off series for all you Zyan fans out there. Snag a copy for FREE on Amazon through the 30th!

Life has been a little…interesting…since Quinn Devereux came back from the dead. Well, life being a relative term when you’re not sure if you’re exactly alive. Dating is hard enough without being non-corporeal. And there’s the small matter of her eternal servitude to Death.

But when someone casts a deadly spell on the high priestess of her former coven, Quinn is called in to find the killer. It’s been decades since she left the coven, and the terms of her departure aren’t exactly fond memories. She’s got to come to terms with her past while also learning to handle her new powers, and unfortunately there’s not a charm in her grimoire for that kind of thing.

As if that weren’t enough to cramp a witch’s style, her training to escort souls and become one of Death’s servants begins at precisely the same time Quinn is trying to catch the murderer. Add in a government group that hunts supernaturals and a reunion with the warlock who broke her heart, and you’ve got a whole cauldron of chaos on your hands.

Some witches have all the fun.

Enjoy!

Of Blood, Earth, and Magic Release!!

Hi, friends!

It's finally here! My YA fantasy Of Blood, Earth, and Magic. A book about a girl, a horse, a boy, a land ravaged by magic and monsters, and a circus of rebels. A book from my soul. It's mage punk/tribal fantasy. It's dark and beautiful and whimsical.

Read on for some fun quotes and pics. Or go ahead and snag it now for FREE if you have Kindle Unlimited, and only 99 cents for everyone else through the end of the week!!

There was a time when the Tribes lived in harmony. Sun, Moon, even the fabled Shadow Tribe. That time is no longer. Now the land has become a wicked wasteland, plagued by strange creatures, enchanted storms, and bubbles of trapped time, remnants of the Shaman Wars. Magic has been outlawed by the Sun, the Moon have gone into seclusion, and the Shadow are all but annihilated, with threat of death hanging over any who step foot within the realm.

This is Iamar.

For Elea, the idea of peace between the tribes is a nothing more than a legend from the history books. She works for a circus of outcasts who travel between the Sun cities. All she wants is freedom: from the circus, to perform her magic, to be herself. But she possesses a deadly secret that makes any chance of liberty impossible. Ashe is a spoiled Sun boy, heir to one of the seven Sun cities. He rebels against his overprotective father by competing in illegal fight dens. Like most Sun, he believes that science is the future, and he’s never traveled outside the walls of his city due to the dangers that lie beyond.

When a new kind of evil begins to terrorize the land, Elea and Ashe find themselves thrown into the center of a coup that could destroy Iamar. To fight the enemy, the Sun and Moon must unite, something that hasn’t been done in three hundred years. But first they must find the Moon Tribe, and that means crossing Iamar, which grows more and more unstable as the dark magic spreads. Dark magic which has everything to do with Elea and her terrible secret.

Book Reviews

"This is definitely a wonderful fantasy story that had me lost in the pages. I was totally intrigued. Don’t miss out once it’s released." Goodreads Reviewer

"Another thing that I really loved about this novel is the way it made every action scene move: with urgency for the life-and-death battles, and a tenderness that just makes you sigh for the quieter interactions between its characters, humans and horses alike. I also really loved how magic is described as part of the earth, having scent like the earth, moving and springing from the earth. It is as much a part of the story as its characters, playing both a destructive and a healing role." Reedsy Discovery

Welcome to the world, book baby! I hope you enjoy Of Blood, Earth, and Magic as much as I do.

Zyan Star Book Tour!

Hi, guys! Zyan is hittin' the road for a month-long tour! I'm super stoked about it. Check out the deets below, including the full tour schedule on the Silver Dagger Book Tour site, and a gift card giveaway! There will be book reviews, guest posts by yours truly, and other fun stuff. Hope you have as much fun as I will :)

Martinis with the Devil
Zyan Star Series Book 1
by A. A. Chamberlynn
Genre: Urban Fantasy

When offered a job on the Holy Representative’s special security team, bounty hunter Zyan Star couldn’t be less interested – until she finds out it’s her most hated of exes that they’re trying to track down. He broke her heart and dumped her, which in turn led to the loss of her soul at the hands of an immortal soul thief. Now she too exists on a diet of souls, with the occasional martini thrown in for good measure, and she’s had over two hundred years to fantasize about revenge. She just didn’t quite imagine it playing out alongside the emissaries of Heaven.

Working with Eli, the uptight angel that heads up the HR’s security, is just about as much fun as Zy expects. He of course wants her vampire ex brought to justice through legal avenues, which is very inconvenient and incredibly boring. As she dives into the case, however, she realizes there’s more at stake than her plot for payback. Like, the free will of mankind, and preventing the minions of hell from taking over the sovereign dimensions.

This job is going to push her to the limits of her abilities, and there’s just a slight problem with that: the powers she’s suppressed for centuries after losing control of them are exactly the powers she’s going to need to save the HR, end her millennia-old ex and stop Lucifer’s little plot to join the party and invade Earth.

Savior of humanity? Not so much. Or so she thought.

**Only .99 cents!!**

Whiskey and Angelfire
Zyan Star Series Book 2

Can Zyan avert the war that’s brewing before her past catches up to her, quite literally?

When one of the angelic warriors goes missing, Zyan and Eli head off to Dublin to join the search. As soon as they arrive, they're swept into rising tensions between the angelic forces and the other supernatural races. As more supernaturals go missing, Archangel Michael will stop at nothing to put the perpetrator behind bars, even if it means placing the city under martial law.

To add to the mess, Zyan's sister Anna is in Dublin, and where Anna is, Lucifer is only a step behind. Not to mention Alexander, Zyan's sworn enemy. Zyan has more than a sneaking suspicion they’re at the heart of a spree of recent demon invasions. But something is odd about these demons, and if she doesn’t figure it out before Lucifer reveals his ultimate plan, the price could be catastrophic.

As if things couldn’t get worse, being back in Ireland where she was turned immortal has dredged up the worst from her past. Including her maker, Olga, who’s none too pleased that Zyan’s come back.

Vengeance and Vermouth
Zyan Star Series Book 3

Book three in the Amazon bestselling Zyan Star urban fantasy series!

To bring her best friend back from the dead, Zyan will march into Hell itself. But first she needs to amass a force that can challenge Lucifer on his home turf.

With Archangel Michael and the forces of Heaven on her heels, Zyan criss-crosses the globe, gathering a supernatural team of epic proportions. She’s calling in all her favors this time, summoning figures from her past both dangerous and deadly.

And to get into Hell she must work with the worst of them all, the one who murdered her friend in the first place. Zy will have to put aside her burning need for revenge to pull off the biggest mission of her life, but that may prove to be the one thing she can’t do.

Alexia is the author of the Amazon bestselling Zyan Star urban fantasy series and The Timekeeper's War contemporary fantasy series. She lives in Florida with her son, two cats, and a bearded dragon. When she's not writing or reading, she can be found playing with horses, drinking wine, traveling to the next place on her global wish list, or maybe doing yoga. Dr. Who, unicorns, and katanas make her very happy. She is represented by Sandy Lu of the L. Perkins Agency.

The Second Annual Zyanniversary!

Hi, guys! I can't believe it's been two years since I released Martinis with the Devil, but here we are. I'm doing another week long Zyanniversary, with a big announcement on Wednesday and TWO giveaways!

The first giveaway is simple: I'll be giving away five e-copies of the complete Zyan Star series. Three full-length novels (Martinis with the Devil, Whiskey & Angelfire, and Vengeance & Vermouth), and two novelettes (Black Magic & Mojitos and Sorcery & Sidecars). You don't have to do anything (I will assume you popped through via my Facebook page), though you get more points if you spread the word on Twitter!

The second giveaway is a $15 Amazon card for book reviewers. I'd like to get more reviews for the Zyan books on Amazon. There are lots of reviews on Goodreads, but not so many on Amazon, and the higher the number of reviews a book has on Amazon, the more it appears to potential new readers. Last year I paid it forward by giving away unlimited copies of all the Zyan books (yep, I totally did), so this year me and Zy are asking you guys to share the love. So, if you posted a review on Goodreads but not Amazon, copy and paste that baby, send me a screenshot at alexiachamberlynn@gmail.com, enter the Rafflecopter below, and you're good to go! Or, if you've read the books but not yet posted a review, give it a go and you may get hooked up with a gift card. Please no fake reviews! I only want honest reviews from my readers.

Here's a link to my Amazon author page where you can find all the books. I'll post all the winners on Sunday the 15th!

Thanks for stopping by for the party!

The Importance of Art

On Saturday my son and I participated in the local March For Our Lives, to support the Marjorie Stoneman Douglas kids up in D.C. since we couldn't make it up there. It was a great experience, and these kids are so amazing. I'm just floored by them, and by this movement.

Years ago when The Hunger Games came out, and then all the other dystopians about evil government and fighting back, people kept saying we were raising our kids to be revolutionists. Well, hell yeah we did. And it's never been more timely than now. They are going to change things. What's more, and sort of weird and wonderful, is that Jennifer Lawrence, who played Katniss in the Hunger Games movie, is taking a year off of acting to travel the country and speak to kids and encourage this movement against corrupt politicians. The NRA so clearly has most of them in their pocket, and that has to change. She's truly the Mockingjay, and so are these kids.

There are those that challenge the need for art in society, or say that it isn't necessary. Well, art changes things, and it changes people. It plants seeds. The dystopian stories that swept society helped pave the way for what's happening now. And that's pretty damn important if you ask me.

So, whatever your thoughts on all that's going on in the world today, remember to make good art. Those of you that love Neil Gaiman like I do will recognize that quote. Make good art. Put your beauty out into the world. I'm not saying you have to try to send a message (and often books that do are too obvious about it), but just by being YOU and putting YOUR art into the world, you make it a better place. And you never know what will come of it down the road.

Happy New Year!

Ah, New Year's Eve. I always contemplate lots of things and like to look back on the year ending and look forward to the year ahead. I had a great riding lesson on my horse today so that was a nice way to wrap up the year. I've also finished the outline for Huntress at War, the third and final book in the Timekeeper's War series.
2017 was a good year for books, much less busy than 2016, but still robust. I hosted my first Zyanniversary in April, for all you Zyan fans. Huntress Found was nominated for a Rone Indie Book award. My agent and I went on submission for my YA fantasy Of Blood, Earth, and Magic (and the verdict is still out on that). And of course, I released Huntress Lost and that's off to a great start.
2018 will hopefully hold a book deal for OBE&M, and I'll be releasing Huntress at War mid-year or so. Towards the end of the year I may even release the 4th Zyan book, but we'll see how those first two things play out.
What are your thoughts on ending 2017 and beginning 2018?

Cover Reveal and Pre-order: Huntress Lost

Today I'm delighted to reveal the cover for Huntress Lost, the second book in my Timekeeper's War series!! If you are one of my newsletter subscribers, you saw this almost two weeks ago, but today is the public reveal, and also the pre-order launch.

For the next few days, Huntress Lost will be 99 cents for pre-order, but then the price is going up! Also, in celebration of the cover reveal, and in case you haven't read Huntress Found, the first in the series, I am making it FREE on Amazon starting tomorrow through the 14th.

So, without further ado....

Isn't it gorgeous?? My cover artist rocks. Here's what it's about (SPOILER ALERT BOOK 1):

Evryn thought that learning she’s a descendant of Artemis and part of a clan of Hunters that can jump through time and space was mind-blowing. But that was only the beginning.

With Kellan trapped in the Timekeeper’s realm, her mother and the whole city of Skye taken hostage by a rebel Hunter, and the Artifex now living inside of her, she’s got just a few things on her plate. Not to mention she’s been thrown into the midst of a new clan, and her new stepmother and sister hate her.

To avert another Hunter’s war and save those she loves, Evryn must seek the aid of the Hunter’s Council. But once she arrives at their headquarters in the Capitol, it’s frying pan to fire. The sinister leader of all the realms wants to keep her as a test bunny for his experiments, more than one person wants her dead, and the Artifex isn’t exactly staying quiet…

Evryn may have finally discovered the truth about her heritage, but she’s never been more lost.

So, GO HERE to snag your 99 cent pre-order of Huntress Lost, and HERE (starting the 12th) to grab your FREE copy of the first book in the series.

And save the date for release day, December 26th!!

Thanks for stopping by and have an awesome weekend :)

Editing, Evolving, and Life

Just finished a re-read of Huntress Found so I could cross-reference my plot points in Huntress Lost and finish up the first draft of that. I wrote it four years ago, literally to the month; I finished it on October 27th of 2013. It was fun to experience that story again and all the things I love about it, and also see the ways in which my writing has evolved since I wrote it. Also, and for some reason I never realized this before, I finished it about 5 days before I asked my ex for a divorce. Completely unrelated, but just weird when I look back at that time in my life.

Anyway, one thing I've definitely learned with this series is that it is NOT to my advantage to have that much time elapse between books in a series. It was hard to pick this story back up and dive into book two, as much as I love it. Especially because it does have such a complex plot in many ways. I'll have a fun time editing this one :)

But, I feel vastly better after my re-read and making notes of important plot points. I'll have this first draft finished up lickety split, and then it'll be time to polish that baby up and get it ready for my lovely ARC team.
